Ailsa-Aitkenhead-playing-Rachmaninov

We are immensely privileged to have Ailsa Aitkenhead as our accompanist (see her website, below, for some details of her life and work).

She has worked with many singers, instrumentalists and choirs, including ‘Les Sirènes’, a female voice choir which won the BBC Choir of the Year award, and John Cushing, a clarinettist and soloist with the RSNO.
Her recordings include Elgar’s ‘Sea Pictures,’ with mezzo-soprano Kamilla Dunstan.

Ailsa has a music degree from Edinburgh University and a Masters in piano accompaniment from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she studied with Scott Mitchell.

She has performed as a soloist and an accompanist in many and varied venues, including the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Clyde Auditorium, St Giles’ Cathedral, Greyfriars Kirk, and Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh.

In our Spring 2026 concert, Ailsa was soloist with the Afton Ensemble in Gerald Finzi’s Eclogue for Piano and Strings.
